Waterdown District High School
Waterdown District High School has is a school with more than 150 years of history, tradition and excellence.
The standards of academic work, attendance and achievement at Waterdown are high and demanding. Good results, however, will allow our students to move on to the world of work, an apprenticeship, college or university. More rewards (and fun) can be attained if students become involved in the life of the school community through participation in various school activities such as sports, bands, clubs and student leadership opportunities.
Actions Taken by Waterdown District High School
The school (the largest high school in our city) has successfully been granted over $40,000 to incorporate renewable energy technolgies into their curriculum, educate students and the community about related energy topics and green its building. Our project helped them with their application and put them in contact with the Engineering Department of McMaster University. We also helped network them with industry experts and companies of solar related products; some of which are contributing their time and expertise with the project.
The school is working with post-grad students at the university to investigate alternative energy options.
Also, these have been updated since you came to our school:
1. Recycling program is more organized with more students involved, allowing continuous improvement and significantly increased waste diversion.
2. setting up a student led solar energy display
3. anti-idling
4. greening of school environment: plants and tree planting
5. environmental messages on morning announcements (with mascot for video announcements!)
6. participate in environmental conferences and visit green living conference
