Climate Change Champions

St. James is a welcoming parish in the heart of Dundas. Our community is warm, inclusive, and always thrilled to welcome newcomers and visitors.

We have many services on Sundays and throughout the week, with a nursery and church school during the 10:30 service on Sunday mornings. From choral evensong to sacred circle dancing, prayers for justice and peace to jazz vespers, our services offer a wide range of spiritual experiences for people of all ages and all backgrounds.

We also have many opportunities for people to grow in their faith journeys outside of worship. Among the many groups we have within our parish are a writers group, a social justice group, a choir, a youth group and an embroidery group. There's no end of ways for you to get involved in things that will interest and challenge you.

St. James is a pilot church for the Anglican Diocese of Niagara's Greening Accredititation programme. There are 3 levels - Bronze, Silver and Gold.  

There are 15 areas and to "pass" each level, at least 12 areas of greening need to have been completed. Topics include - water, food, energy, transport, and recycling. The bronze pilot project has to be completed by September - but we are almost there.

There is also a Home Challenge that we will be asking people to participate in similar ways at home.  

1.    Green Cleaning Policy and church in process of switching over to natural cleaning products (see attachement below)
2.    New windows installed throughout the building (through big fund-raising effort)
3.    More signs up to encourage recycling in general
4.    Signs up to encourage turning off lights
5.    Installed a box to recycle batteries
6.    Held a 100-mile lunch for 80 congregants (cooking only ingredients grown within 100 mile radius of the church) (see menu and sources below)
7.    A local food breakfast event is planned with speakers (in conjunction with Environment Hamilton) for August 8th 2009.
