Neighbour to Neighbour

neighbour logo The Neighbour to Neighbour Centre helps residents in the greater Hamilton area to be self-sufficient through a variety of programs and services. The Centre offers employment services, including a job finding club and employment counselling: skill development through resource counselling and literacy programs: as well as family support, including a food bank and Christmas Hamper program.

Actions taken by Neighbour to Neighbour

1. Removed one old window air conditioner unit that was not in use, to reduce draughts through the unit all year long.

2. Created a policy and procedure for removing window air conditioning units for the winter months to minimize draughts.

3. Hosted an ecoDriver presentation for staff and community members to help people use their vehicles more efficiently.

4.  Reduced weekly garbage output by offering more blue boxes and green bins throughout the centre.

5. Improved recycling rates in the centre through education increased accesablility of blue boxes.

6. Improved composting program by offering two additional green bins. 

7. Reduced a major source of heat loss by educating staff and enacting a policy on closing the recieving door when not in use.

8. Doing the research on many more items and assessing the financial viability of making the changes.
